School in Kapolei Expands Performing Arts

A school in Kapolei is expanding its teaching of the the performing arts. The new program is part of an existing school, one that is expanding to include a curriculum that caters to the musical performing arts. The American Renaissance Academy is a small private school in Kapolei that has decided to begin a program for students interested in musical theater. The program is going to be a rigorous one, where the students will have to live up to a certain set of standards.

The new theatrical program is great for high school aged students on Oahu who want a career in the performing arts. Any time a specialization is offered it gives so much to students who are passionate in that particular arena. Thespians being raised on Oahu can now get what they need in Kapolei.

The Kapolei area will benefit greatly from a West Oahu campus that is being built for the University of Hawaii. $48 million has just been released to build the campus, which we be located in Kapolei. University of Hawaii in West Oahu has been without a campus for over 30 years and the new campus will provide the permanence and the classrooms that have been desired.

The building of the new campus in Kapolei will be great for local employment, especially in the construction industry. When the facility is completed it will be great for Kapolei area residents who can take advantage of higher learning, and for Kapolei businesses that will surely benefit from a larger student population.

Kroc Center Slated to Break Ground in Kapolei by End of Month

The Kroc Center is slated to break ground by the end of March in Kapolei. The center will be a state of the art community center on Oahu that will house everything from a preschool to a performing arts center, a huge benefit for those living in Kapolei. The Kroc Center will have the following facilities:

A large (21,000-square-foot) resource center
A preschool
A performing arts center
A conference center
A fitness center as well as a gymnasium
An aquatic center

In addition the Kroc Center will have a dormitory to house visiting sports teams, conference attendees and artists performing in the center. There will also be a large outdoor space for sporting activities. The Kapolei center is expected to be completed some time in late 2011.

Kapolei Has A New Courthouse

Kapolei has a new courthouse and it is opening by the end of this month. The courthouse was planned years ago and is a state of the art facility. The court complex will be home to Family Court, the Juvenile Detention Center and the Wai’anae District Court.

Kapolei will benefit greatly from the new court complex. In addition to not having to travel far to go to court, a substantial number of jobs are going to be available. Kapolei is Oahu’s second city and the new court building is one which would make any city proud.

Green is the Theme on Oahu

Green seems to be the theme on Oahu these days, now there appears to even be a way to party green. If you want to learn what partying green is get to the Kapolei Library on Saturday (March 13) morning at 11 am. The program is titled “Green Living & Partying” and is sure to enlighten all who attend.

The topics that will be covered will help make your daily life in Kapolei healthier for you. There will be discussion on recycling, the use of styrofoam and plastic as well as how to throw a more environmentally friendly party. If you live in Kapolei or anywhere on Oahu this discussion could prove to be interesting. Reducing one’s carbon footprint can only help improve one’s environment.

The annual Kapolei City Lights Parade is today, Saturday, December 12, at 6 pm. Tree lighting will top off the evening at 7:30 pm. This year marks the 9th annual holiday festival in Kapolei, a wonderful tradition of holiday lights, a parade, fun, entertainment and the tree lighting.

The Kapolei City Lights Parade is followed by a Block Party on Uluohia Street, where there will be games for the keiki, live entertainment. This holiday fun represents the best of what Kapolei has to offer, a wonderful sense of community and spirit. An Environmental Education Center Planned for Kapolei

A new environmental center will devlop in Kapolei sometime in 2010

A partnership between Kapolei High School and the Malama Learning Center plans to create an environmental education center in Kapolei, attached to the high school. The facility will teach the community about its environment, conservation and how to take care of our area. According to a recent article in the Star Bulletin, “the Malama Learning Center will be a gathering place where the community learns to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and values of caring for the land and sea, and be inspired through classes, workshops, performances, volunteer service projects and creative arts.”

The American Renaissance Academy in Kapolei is a school which is getting rid of the old and utilizing the new as a way to learn. Instead of text books and silent learning students at this Kapolei school use laptops and each-other to learn as a group.
