The annual Kapolei City Lights Parade is today, Saturday, December 12, at 6 pm.  Tree lighting will top off the evening at 7:30 pm.  This year marks the 9th annual holiday festival in Kapolei, a wonderful tradition of holiday lights, a parade, fun, entertainment and the tree lighting.

The Kapolei City Lights Parade is followed by a Block Party on Uluohia Street, where there will be games for the keiki, live entertainment.  This holiday fun represents the best of what Kapolei has to offer, a wonderful sense of community and spirit.  Come to Kapolei this evening and kick off the holidays Hawaiian style on the island of Oahu.

A new environmental center will devlop in Kapolei sometime in 2010

A partnership between Kapolei High School and the Malama Learning Center plans to create an environmental education center in Kapolei, attached to the high school.  The facility will teach the community about its environment, conservation and how to take care of our area.  According to a recent article in the Star Bulletin, “the Malama Learning Center will be a gathering place where the community learns to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and values of caring for the land and sea, and be inspired through classes, workshops, performances, volunteer service projects and creative arts.”

Traffic is expected to be less congested in Kapolei when new interchange opens Monday

Kapolei school utilizes technology over text books

The American Renaissance Academy in Kapolei is a school which is getting rid of the old and utilizing the new as a way to learn.  Instead of text books and silent learning students at this Kapolei school use laptops and each-other to learn as a group.  With computers they can look up information on-line, with the click of a mouse and a few strokes of the keys.  Assignments are also posted online, no more excuses like “the dog ate my homework” allowed.  The use of computers reduces the amount of paper wasted and is clearly “green” in nature but the Kapolei school is using computers to bring its students into the future and help them learn the way technology is enabling them to.
