Kapolei Mortgage Loans and the Predatory Lending Bill

Bill introduced in Congress could affect Kapolei mortgage loans

Predatory is such a concern today that Congress is stepping in. Inman News reports on the predatory lending bill:

The product of months of hearings, "The Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2007" would create new minimum standards for all mortgages — including a requirement that lenders make good-faith determinations of a borrower’s ability to repay.

In many cases, Hawaii homeowners find themselves in trouble after unscrupolous lenders convince them to switch to predatory Kapolei mortgage loans. John Riggins points out that such a measure, requiring lenders to meet certain standards, and to receive continuing education, is needed. He says:

From my nearly
31 years of working daily in residential sales, the legislation in Congress to
require lenders to become licensed within 2 years and giving the bankruptcy
judge the ability to re-structure the mortgage home loan for owner occupants is
long over due.
