Women Buy Hawaii Real Estate

National single women homebuying trend comes to Hawaii

The fastest growing homebuying demographic in the country is single women. And single women are now keen to buy Hawaii real estate as well. Even though Hawaii real estate features notable difficulties when it comes to buying a first home, as well as finding an affordable home, Hawaii Business magazine points out that many single professional women can afford a mortgage. But, as the magazine continues, the national single women homebuying trend may not gain as big a foothold in Hawaii:

Not everyone is convinced that this trend could gain a foothold here. Wendy Lum, a mortgage lender with First Hawaiian Bank, says that lending restrictions have gotten tighter in recent months, making it less likely for most single people to afford a home in Hawaii. “Because it’s so expensive, they would have to be a professional making at least $60,000 a year. Anything below that, and it would be hard to afford a mortgage.”

But there are also Hawaii mortgage programs for certain professions that can ease the cost.
