Hawaii Superferry Controversy Continues
Protesters, State of Hawaii duke it out over new Hawaii superferry
The Hawaii Superferry has been billed as a cheaper alternative to flying when it comes to getting people between the Hawaii real estate of the islands. However, an injunction was issue against the Hawaii Superferry because an environmental assessment hadn’t been properly conducted. On the otherhand, some say that a Hawaii Superferry environmental assessment isn’t necessary, reports USA Today:
The state Department of Transportation, which
has exempted the Superferry from conducting an environmental
assessment, will likely oppose plans for an injunction at tomorrow’s
hearing.
"The state supports the Superferry because it is good for the people of Hawai’i," said Deputy Attorney General Bill Wynhoff.
Protesters on surfboards blocked harbors on Sunday during the Hawaii Superferry maiden voyage to Kauai, in an attempt to turn the boat back. Eventually the Coast Guard cleared a path for the Hawaii Superferry.
